Prescription drug overdose deaths have quadrupled among 12-25 year olds in Kansas over the past 12 years. DCCCA Prevention Services is addressing the prescription drug and opioid crisis in Kansas through the Strategic Prevention Framework for Prescription Drugs (SPF-Rx) initiative.

Statewide Planning and Implementation
DCCCA coordinates the Kansas Prescription Drug and Opioid Advisory Committee. The purpose of the Kansas Prescription Drug and Opioid Advisory Committee is to develop a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary strategic plan to address the opioid crisis in Kansas and implement coordinated efforts across the state. Annual Kansas Opioid and Stimulant Conference
The Opioid Conference provides an opportunity for professionals from multiple specialties to learn about the epidemic and provide insight for developing a path forward for Kansas. Conference topics include strategies regarding how to address the epidemic through the different lenses of Prescribing, Prevention, Treatment, Recovery, Law Enforcement, and Clinical Intervention. Medication Disposal Projects
The goal of this project is to increase the safe disposal of prescription opioids using medication disposal products, in target populations, to decrease social availability for individuals between the ages of 12-25. Safe Medication Storage
The SPF-Rx program provides lockbags to Kansas residents. These bags promote safe use, storage and transportation of medication to prevent misuse or accidental poisoning. While supplies last, lockbags can be requested HERE.
