Become a Mental Health First Aid Instructor
Interested in teaching Mental Health First Aid to your community or organization? Through our ODMSHAS-funded grant, MHFA OK provides multiple “Training of Trainer” (TOT) opportunities annually. These trainings are paid for through MHFA OK, but facilitated by the National Council of Mental Wellbeing, who operates Mental Health First Aid nationwide. The instructor certification process includes self-paced pre-work, a 3-day training that presents the Mental Health First Aid course and provides in-depth instruction on facilitating the curriculum., and a written exam and teach-back presentation that evaluates each candidate’s ability to present the Mental Health First Aid course to a variety of audiences. Instructor candidates can become certified to teach the Adult or Youth curriculum, or both. Once certified, they can also add the additional community-specific training modules.
To maintain certification, Mental Health First Aid Instructors must teach the course at least three times per year. MHFA OK provides opportunities for training, support with materials and delivery, as well as teaching assistance and networking opportunities with fellow instructors. If this opportunity fits your needs and abilities, apply for our hosted TOT session!
Note: applying on the form at the link above does not guarantee you a seat in an upcoming TOT session. Candidates are reviewed based upon skills, availability and comfortability with the topics Mental Health First Aid covers. This includes crises such as suicide, overdose and psychosis.
