A trauma informed approach to care is one that realizes the prevalence of trauma and recognizes how trauma affects all individuals, including staff. Putting this knowledge into practice allows us to resist re-traumatization and provide more effective services and support to families, clients, and staff.
DCCCA embraced “trauma informed” as an organization wide commitment in 2014. Through our work with the National Council for Behavioral Health, we established the following vision:
“We are dedicated to becoming a trauma informed, client, staff and community engaged organization. We offer services in a manner that is safe, respectful, collaborative, strengths based and accountable. We acknowledge all persons’ past experiences are key to effective healing and recovery.”
