March Advocacy Update
DCCCA is tracking activities of the federal legislative session, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Below is a list of the most recent activities we have been tracking:
- In Oklahoma we are watching several bills that impact funding for services related to prevention of and treatment for Prescription Drug use, marijuana, and alcohol. There have also been several bills introduced related to State Question 780 and 781, which decreased drug charges to a misdemeanor and would sent the money saved from not putting folks in jail to treatment services.
- In Kansas we are tracking the following bills:
- Deemed Status License: substance treatment facilities with accreditation would receive licensing from KDADS, HB 2106. Testified in support on Wed 2/1 during House Health and Human Services Committee. We anticipate that after some minor changes to text of the bill to clarify meaning the bill would pass committee.
- Increase fines to support SAFE, HB 2076. Testimony during a Transportation Committee Hearing last week (Tues 2/7) went well.
- The Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services budget being discussed in the House and Social Service Budget Committee.
- Two bills (SB 32 & HB 2124)that would include substance use treatment programs and other providers in Kansas as placement to qualify for Psychiatry Medical Loans. At this point there is some opposition to this bill that will make it unlikely to progress out of committee.
